IPL ( Photofacial )

Intense Pulse LIght treatments ( also known as IPL or Photofacials ) are a form of non-ablative laser skin rejuvenation; IPL treatments are used to lessen unwanted hair, lighten unsightly pigmentation, clear redness and telangiectasia ( facial veins ). In an IPL session a handheld device emits intense pulses of light into the skin; These photonic particles are attracted to chromophores contrasting the skins color, they easily finds the desired target and heat it to destruction. IPL treatments feel similar to a rubber band snapping the skins surface. An ultrasound gel is applied to the treated area prior, this helps light better penetrate into the skin and helps prevent burns. Protective lenses are worn to protect the eyes from the intense pulses of light. Treatments only take a few minutes per area​

IPL devices differ from typical lasers as they emit intense flashes of light which gently target chromophores in the skin ideally without harming surrounding tissues whereas lasers emit columnated beams that ablate through any organic matter in their path; Lasers compromise the skins barrier and can potentially cause permanent scarring, meaning IPL is less likely to afflict the skin than a laser and is better suited for treating hyperpigmentation and different forms of redness

​​​​IPL shouldn't be performed on scaling  ( flaking skin ); If your skin is so dehydrated that it's showing visual signs of distress such as scales, schedule a facial and seek guidance on proper homecare prior to scheduling. Expect redness, scaling and in some individuals swelling for 3 to 7 days post procedure
