Healing times vary by treatment and individual. After a basic facial, your skin is highly susceptible to UV light for 3 to 5 days. Microneedling and IPL/laser treatments require the skin to be fully healed, as they don't cause long-term photosensitivity. However, after a Chemical Peel, it can take 4 to 6 weeks for skin sensitivity to subside and for all traces of the active exfoliants to purge from the treated tissue.
Once your skin is cleaned and prepped, the peel, which has a water-like consistency, will be applied with a saturated cotton ball. You'll feel a tingly, burning sensation that intensifies, similar to mouthwash (without the minty coolness). These sensations usually subside within a few minutes, and most people aren't in discomfort by the time they leave the facility.
Before the service, a numbing ointment is applied to the treatment area to minimize discomfort. A tattoo-like device creates tiny micro-injuries in the skin. Most of the session is painless, but corrective or results-oriented treatments may cause minor discomfort. Microneedling feels more tedious than painful, similar to massaging a bruise, with tenderness usually following the session.
